ABOUT

Ali, Tom and Charlotte Burrows started out as a family trio playing twelve-bar blues and learning improvisational technique. Performing live is something we’ve been doing for years, as individuals and with various brass, church and folk bands, so we’re comfortable live performers. As a jazz trio we won the ensemble class of the Carnforth Rotary Young Musician Competition in March 2015. Later that year we performed for a birthday cruise on Ullswater with bass trombonist Ed Hodgson. When drummer Sam Nicholls joined the band in December 2015 he raised both the quality of the music and expanse of repertoire – Muskrat Ramble was launched.

In 2016 we were thrilled to win the Jazz North Introduces young ensemble award. They said: "A junior award was made to Muskrat Ramble, a young ensemble from Lancaster. Aged between 12 and 16 years of age, they were the youngest applicants and impressed the panel with their enthusiasm and potential."

We have more recently begun "guesting" David Whyatt on saxophone and drummer/percussionists Lachlan Rurlander and Louis Singleton at gigs and recordings.
